Food insecurity isn’t an isolated or far-off problem—it’s close to home.

Food security is the most commonly reported unmet social need in the United States. That means people you know—your neighbors, coworkers, and friends—could be facing food insecurity. You might even be surprised to find out that your community houses food deserts where it’s difficult to buy healthy, affordable food.

What is food insecurity? Food insecurity is defined as a lack of consistent access to enough food for every person in a household to live an active, healthy life. This can be a temporary situation for a household or can last a long time. Food insecurity is one way we can measure how many people cannot afford food. According to the USDA, more than 34 million people, including 9 million children experience food insecurity in the United States.

What are the effects of food insecurity?

Food insecurity can have a wide impact, depending on each individual’s circumstances. Some of the most common, yet complex, effects of food insecurity include:

Serious health complications, especially when people facing hunger are forced to choose between spending money on food and medicine or medical care

Damage to a child’s ability to learn and grow

Difficult decisions such as choosing between paying for food and heat, electricity, rent, and transportation

To serve Christ and participate in His compassion by sharing food and offering His message of hope.

Biblical Foundation – Matthew 25:35,40

“For I was hungry and you gave me food.  I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink.  I was a stranger and you welcomed me…Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”

Core Values of 4JC Food Ministry

Prayer will be the foundation of all we do.

       ·  Requesting prayers from the congregation for the food pantry ministry.

Prayer team members letting each other know where they are at all times.

·        Offering any healing prayer time outside of food pantry hours.

We will keep evangelism at the forefront of our ministry.

The food pantry ministry is committed to:

·     ·     Using music and video’s to share Christ’s message.

We will show Christ’s grace to each person who comes, regardless of where they are on their faith journey, their socio-economic class or background.

         ·  Being a welcoming and comfortable place to those who come.

·           Being a safe place for all who come.
